Important Update: The Future of GP Services in Inverurie

As a medical practice, we feel it is important to share with our patients the growing challenges we face in delivering the level of care you deserve. Like many GP surgeries across Scotland, we are experiencing the effects of long-term underfunding by the Scottish Government—funding that has not kept pace with inflation, population growth, or the increasing complexity of patient needs.
Since 2008, general practice funding has eroded by an estimated £290 million, dropping from 11% of the NHS Scotland budget to just 6.2% today
1. This has led to a situation where practices are struggling to recruit staff, meet demand, and maintain safe and sustainable services. Despite our best efforts, we are now forced to reduce the services we can offer, and we understand how frustrating this can be for our patients.
The British Medical Association (BMA) Scotland has entered a formal dispute with the Scottish Government, calling for urgent restoration of funding and meaningful reform

2. While the government has announced a £15 million funding boost for this year, leading voices in general practice have made it clear that this is only a small step toward addressing the crisis

3.We believe transparency is essential. By informing you of these pressures, we hope to foster understanding and encourage support. If you feel strongly about the future of GP services, we invite you to contact your local MSP and ask what is being done to protect and invest in primary care.
Together, we can advocate for a healthcare system that meets the needs of our communities—now and in the future.
